Yumi Kitagishi is a Japanese illustrator and picture book author whose hand-drawn worlds are populated by white cats, rabbits and other small animals going quietly about their lives. Her scenes reward a second look — there is always a detail you missed the first time. She has been part of the Hobonichi Artist Collection for several years running, and for 2027 her white cat and friends move into a village and a dollhouse.
These illustrations were drawn especially for Hobonichi. The familiar white cat and a cast of small animals are thoroughly at home here, each of them occupied with something, and the pleasure of it is that the discoveries keep coming — on the tenth look as much as the first.
The bookmarks are simple ribbons, and the inner sleeve where the techo slips in is a light green with a lively, wallpaper-like pattern, so the house feeling carries on inside. “butterfly-stopper” pen holders double as a clasp to keep the cover shut. Sized for the A6 techo.
