Akiko Miyakoshi is a picture book author and illustrator working largely in lithography, with a hushed palette of charcoal greys lifted by a single warm colour. Her books have been honoured with the Japan Picture Book Award, a Bologna Ragazzi Prize, and selection as a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book. For 2027 she turns to travel — the window seat, the unfamiliar street, the moment you want to keep.
This painting grew out of the window scenery Miyakoshi saw while travelling in the UK — a lovely view, expanded on until it became a picture of its own. The reverse is a yellow that carries the warmth and light of the sun.
A pencil board sized to its techo, with a “Today” tab on the corner so it doubles as a bookmark. Slip it under the page you’re writing on for a firmer surface. Made for the A6 size.
