Natal Design is a Tokyo brand with roots in outdoor and casual wear, known for Okayama denim and for reworking classic silhouettes with a bit of humour. This is their first collaboration with Hobonichi.
The brand’s signature swallows dance right across the cover. Each bird is given a texture of its own, so you can feel the motif under your fingertips as much as see it, and the spine is finished in a vivid turquoise that lands sharply against the black. Swallows have long been read as a sign of good fortune returning, which is a fair thing to carry into a new year.
The Weeks keeps a week on the left page and a grid page on the right, with grid pages at the back for everything that doesn’t fit inside a day. The light hardcover has enough give to travel well, and because the design is bound in, there is no separate cover to add. Slim enough to disappear into a bag, and sturdy enough to come back out intact.
