Liberty Fabrics has been printing since Arthur Lasenby Liberty opened on Regent Street in 1875. Its archive holds more than 45,000 designs, still drawn by hand in London and printed at the company's own mill in Italy — including the famously fine Tana Lawn cotton.
Michelle was released in 1933 by the artist known in the archive only as DS, who also drew Betsy — one of the house's best-loved prints. Michelle is the quieter cousin: a vast array of small flowers in every shape, light pink, orange and vermilion through the reds, pale navy and sky blue through the cools. There is a lot to look at, and none of it is in a hurry.
Cut for the Weeks, in Liberty cotton with a cow leather interior — two materials that both improve with handling. The cover zips shut all the way round, keeping the slim book and anything tucked beside it safely in, and inside there is a pen hook that holds a pen by its clip.
