The Moomins came from the pen of Tove Jansson, the Finnish artist and author who first sent them out into the world in 1945. Moominvalley has been a place readers return to ever since — gentle, funny, and quietly wise about how to live. This is the second year of Hobonichi's Moomin collaboration.
The scene comes from Moominpappa at Sea. Through the family's long stay at the lighthouse, Moominmamma looks for a little peace and finds it by painting a garden onto the wall — and here she is, asleep inside it. Bright purple thread embroidery on pink-grey cotton gives the whole picture a softness that printing could not, the stitches catching the light as the cover moves.
The bookmark ends are finished with white shell and flower charms, and the "butterfly-stopper" pen holders double as a clasp to keep everything shut. Sized for the A5 book, which slips inside — a cover you can carry for a year and still like at the end of it.
