Akiko Miyakoshi is a picture book author and illustrator working largely in lithography, with a hushed palette of charcoal greys lifted by a single warm colour. Her books have been honoured with the Japan Picture Book Award, a Bologna Ragazzi Prize, and selection as a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book. For 2027 she turns to travel — the window seat, the unfamiliar street, the moment you want to keep.

The illustration runs from the back cover through to the inner pockets, so the whole cover reads as one large picture with the passage of time folded into it. The bookmarks are bright yellow ribbons, like a light left on.
Sized for the A5 techo. The bookmarks are bright yellow ribbons, picking up the light in the artwork, and “butterfly-stopper” pen holders double as a clasp to keep the cover shut. The polyester is light and hard-wearing, which suits a book that ends up in a bag more often than on a shelf.
