2027 Hobonichi A5 HON: V&A Series - Vine

Hobonichi

A collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the world’s largest museum of applied and decorative arts. Drawing on a collection spanning five thousand years, these designs bring the museum’s textiles, patterns and treasures onto paper and cloth.

The cover carries Vine, designed in 1873 and held in the museum’s collection — ripe clusters of grapes entwined with lush, curling leaves, drawn by William Morris and his circle. It is a pattern that reads as calm from across a room and as busy as a hedgerow up close.

HON is Hobonichi’s bound book, with the cover and the pages made as a single piece and nothing else needed. A5 is the roomier of the two sizes, with space on the page for a long entry or a pasted-in scrap, and the hardcover stays light and slightly flexible in the hand. Nothing about it asks to be handled carefully, which is rather the point of a book you write in every day.
