Tadahiro Baba Cast Iron Pond Owl Round Vermillion Ink Pad - Brown

Tadahiro Baba

Born in 1930, Tadahiro Baba was a Japanese cast iron artist hailing from Nagano Prefecture. He is known for combining the traditional technique of Nambu Tekki and modern-style designs. Nambu Tekki is the 900 year old craft of producing cast iron works and has officially been certified as a Traditional Craftwork of Japan. To this day it continues to be revered for its enduring beauty and practicality.

A graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts, Tadahiro Baba worked in product development before launching his own design studio and his works have become famous for their expressive character.

Owls are considered symbols of wisdom and protection, and in Japanese culture, they are also associated with good fortune and warding off hardship. With its thoughtful design and dignified presence, this little companion adds a grounded beauty to your desktop or writing nook.

This cast iron owl ink pad brings a touch of whimsy to the ritual of sealing letters. The piece combines functionality with sculptural delight—its rounded body cradles a rich vermilion ink, traditionally used for name seals and personal stamps in Japan.
