A collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the world’s largest museum of applied and decorative arts. Drawing on a collection spanning five thousand years, these designs bring the museum’s textiles, patterns and treasures onto paper and cloth.

This cover belongs to the world of William Morris and his creative companions, whose work the museum holds in depth. The front carries John Henry Dearle’s “Leicester” wallpaper of 1912 — Dearle was Morris & Co.’s chief designer after Morris’s death, and the pattern shows his hand: foliage layered over foliage, leaves turning across each other until the ground all but disappears. Slow to read and deeply built up, it’s a design that rewards being looked at properly rather than glanced at.

Sized for the A5 techo, hard-wearing polyester. This pen holder is designed to hold a pen by its barrel rather than its clip. It’s a fine thing to carry a pattern like this on a book you write in daily, a century on from the studio that drew it.
