Ink Institute Fountain Pen Ink - Taiwan's Secret Realm: Shuinandong Smelter

Shuinandong Smelter 黃金山城 is inspired by the historic mining region of Shuinandong, Jinguashi, and Jiufen—towns that formed the heart of Taiwan’s gold and copper industry during the early 20th century. The area’s most iconic landmark, the 13-Level Smelter, once processed vast amounts of ore from the surrounding mountains. Though long retired from use, the structure remains preserved on the hillside, illuminated at night like a quiet monument to Taiwan’s industrial past.

The nearby Yin Yang Sea, with its meeting of yellow and blue waters, and the Golden Waterfall shaped by mineral-rich springs, complete the surreal landscape that defines this region. The ink reflects the fading heat and memory of that era: a smoky gray base with warm layers of red and yellow, recalling molten metal, firelight, and the soft plume of smoke rising from the mountainside.
