Yumi Kitagishi is a Japanese illustrator and picture book author whose hand-drawn worlds are populated by white cats, rabbits and other small animals going quietly about their lives. Her scenes reward a second look — there is always a detail you missed the first time. She has been part of the Hobonichi Artist Collection for several years running, and for 2027 her white cat and friends move into a village and a dollhouse.
In The Room finds two cats at home in a cheerful, colourful space filled with their favourite things — the furniture, the clothes folded and put away, the stuffed toys arranged just so. The reverse is blue, with a small window set into it.
