*Classes will not be cancelled/rescheduled unless due to inclement weather.

This course is open to all levels of students. Those new to the pointed pen will benefit more from the course if they take the Pointed Pen Introductory workshop first.

The course is spread over six sessions and designed to develop a thorough understanding of the techniques used to write the Copperplate Script. The course will be conducted both in-class and on-line. Salman will work personally with each student to make sure they get the most out of this course.

Each sessions will start with a class on a particular aspect of the script followed by a homework assignment. We will have at least two weeks to complete each assignment before the next class. Assignments will be uploaded to an online forum (scan or clear picture). Feedback will provided individually to each participant until they develop a good command of the principle under study.

Students will also have access to videos demonstrating the techniques we study as they work on their assignments.

Each class builds up on the previous lessons. By the end of the course, the students will develop a good understanding of the underlying structure of both minuscule and majuscule letters and will be skilled enough to execute the script to a high degree of accuracy.

This class is limited to 10 students.

You will need the following supplies for this workshop:

  • Holder: An oblique holder is recommended for both right and left handed participants. You can also use a straight holder if you are comfortable with it.
  • Nibs: I recommend the Hunt 101 or Hunt 22 from Speedball. (Please make sure your nibs are prepared to take ink – new nibs need to be washed with detergent/toothpaste to make them ready for use).
  • Ink: Walnut ink, Higgins Eternal, Parker Quink Blue-Black, Pelikan Brilliant Black are all good options.
  • Paper: Rhodia blank pads or HP Premium Choice Laser 32 lb. You will need about 15 sheets.

If you require a complete kit, it can be purchased up to 1 week prior to class.
