May 5, 2020 (1:00-2:30 PM EST) or

May 7, 2020 (1:00-2:30 PM EST)

In this 90 min beginners workshop, we will start from scratch everything you need to know about getting started with watercolors and answer questions like:

How much water is too much/ too little?
How to you properly hold the watercolor brush?
How do I not get my colours to not be muddy?
I need to loosen up my painting, how do I do that?

We will then apply this new knowledge to painting loose watercolor florals of all kinds. Once we are comfortable, we will then paint floral bouquet and wreath perfect for any Mother’s Day painting or card.

While this is a group workshop, I believe each of us have our own rhythm to learning and unique art journey. I like to honour this by take the time to guide each participant one-on-one and find a process that works for you.

FAQ: What supplies do I need to have ready for the workshop?

The short answer is any brush that is made for watercolor painting, watercolor paints, and watercolor specific paper.

If you prefer more specific recommendations:

one medium round tip watercolor brush
watercolor paints in pans ( at least the primary colours and a brown/black)
watercolor paper (I would recommend 130lbs/300gsm cold press at least 25% cotton). As long as you have some watercolor materials to play with, that is more than sufficient.

ABOUT CocoBee

I am fascinated with understanding the therapeutic relationship between art creation and the mind. After attaining my B.Sc. in Neuroscience and Psychology from McMaster University, I continued forward to my Masters under the Department of Medicine in Psychiatry. Here I was hit with a wave of challenges that left me in much pain. Serendipitously I turned to the watercolor palette on my desk with the intention to alleviate some of that pain. Little did I know this would be the marriage of psychology and art in my life. Stemming from philosophies of mindfulness and art therapy, my watercolor painting and videography practice became a powerful yet un-invasive modality for healing. My own experiences with this have led me to a reinvigoration of art and purpose in my life. It is my greatest hope that my art practice can lead to the inspiration, transformation, and healing of others.

My philosophy for painting is process focused rather than the results. I see the paint brush as a tool for self expression and the paints as living breathing entities that give the process of art creation life. I think of form, colours, and gestures, as a pathway to communicate from our subconscious what can not be expressed through words. It is in this space that I believe we can begin important, often hard, dialogues with ourselves and others. It is through this space that I believe we can bring about healing.
